Supporting ADHD in higher education

At Amano we know that every student is unique. What works for one individual may not work for another. By being informed about specific conditions, such as ADHD, and the vast resources that are available for both students and Consultants we can ensure all our students get the high standard of support expected from Amano.

How we ensure our Consultants are confident supporting students with ADHD

Amano offers all of its consultants Continued Professional Development (CPD) on topical inclusivity themes facing society (and particularly students) today, such as mental health, hate crime awareness and identity psychology.

Recently we provided a CPD session for all our consultants which focussed on ADHD. The session was held by coach, mentor, trainer and facilitator, Tanja Conway-Grim. Tanja drew on her lived experience of ADHD to provide an engaging and informative CPD session. Tanja covered a range of working techniques that our consultants could then take away to help them support students with ADHD. Tanja also provided a wealth of resources such as guides, blogs and articles that our consultants could access after the session and draw upon when supporting students with ADHD.

Tanja will also be joining us for our CPD Revolution live event series where she will be running fun, interactive, practical and bespoke workshops on working with ADHD students. The workshop aims to help attendees understand how ADHD may impact a student and what they can do to support them.

The workshop will be based on Tanja’s specialist coaching and mentoring that she provides for neurodivergent people, including university students with ADHD, covering:

    • What is ADHD (including co-occurring and co-morbid conditions)?
    • What are the strengths and challenges?
    • How do you help someone prioritise?
    • How to support focus and concentration and prevent overwhelm.
